The Lions Club of Calgary is delighted to announce that it has completed the new 92,000 sq. ft. building at the corner of Crowchild Trail NW and Kensington Road NW that creates affordable housing for 130 Calgary seniors as is currently accepting applications. The new seniors facility is called Lions Village.
The 24 small bungalows (30 tenants) used to occupy the site were built in the 1950s and were in need of significant upgrading. We have worked closely with each of our former tenants to ensure that they received support in search of appropriate housing as we transitioned our 1.5-acre site for construction.
The four-story Lions Village houses 90 affordable units for seniors. This includes (81), one and two-bedroom suites for low-medium income seniors who are functionally independent. There are also nine studio units for homeless seniors in need of housing. The modern facility provides up-to-date services and support programs for seniors. As well, Lions Village is jointly operated by the Calgary Lions Club and Bethany Care Society.
